Blog Journal 7

My experience with twitter so far has been smooth. Of course, this is probably to do with the fact I had already used twitter for a bit, but nonetheless it is easy to use for school-related purposes as well. I do have some issues with making the posts not so dry when using it for class, but I guess that comes with the territory. I did find it interesting how the ads I come across have changed since I began using it for this purpose. Overall I like twitter best when used causally, however I do see the useful application of twitter to an educational format. http://peaksmiddleprep.weebly.com In my experience using weekly.com to make my class webpage I feel I have gained a lot. Although at first I was considerably frustrated, working through the frustration to finally understand the website made it become fun quickly. I had a lot of trouble adding links to the site, and was confused as to how I could change the tabs in the top right-hand corner of the website from the default "ho...

Blog #6

http://www.lms.stjohns.k12.fl.us The website includes links to the pto, contact info, and a list of the staff. Individual class sites include information about contact and basically a welcome page. The site also provides parents and students with links to financial information, such as the "cafeteria" link which allows parents to view the week's meals and add funds to their student's account. Without a passcode, visitors can view images of the events and a calendar of those to come. Visitors can also view how they can enroll their child and donate to the school PTO (Parent-teacher-organization). As an aspiring teacher I can see how I would use technology in the classroom, but after viewing this school webpage, I can see how I would also need to use technology outside of the classroom. For starters, a class webpage would be very important. I see it as a way to disburse information which students and parents have access to and can be accountable for, in order to av...

ILP Participation - Lynda.com Excel Tutorial

For my Independent learning project I chose to learn and practice Microsoft Excel through Lynda.com. I chose to do so because, I saw the Lynda.com option as a way to vastly increase my abilities in programs I'll depend upon in the future. Additionally, I chose Excel because with a brother working in finance, I have been made well aware of how pivotal Excel is in the professional world. Although relatively daunting due to how time consuming it appeared, I found that the time went by very quickly and could absolutely tell that the time they took to teach the program was necessary to learn such a complex program. To tell the truth I still don't have a firm grasp on the finer details of the program, but at least now I have what it takes to manipulate it on my own time to learn it. Overall I really loved that there is a site such as Lynda.com and recognize how it offers me the ability to develop myself as a professional with job-applicable attributes and abilities. As a teacher, E...

My experience first using Diigo was good, although it took a bit of playing around with the website. I liked how you could highlight URL's and webpages. I also liked how you could import notes. I didn't like the ads, but when things are free I understand their necessity. I have liked blogging, although it's hard to blog in a colorful way within the academic setting. It is nice to feel you have your own space however. It is a lot like social media, but more lengthy, which I like, and I especially like the sense of privacy mixed with a public forum, as I highly doubt my blog has much traffic at all. I can definitely see the benefit of being able to manipulate a website for someone that really wants to get into blogging. My favorite Web 2.0 tool so far is Skype. I like it primarily because I am most familiar with it and using it brings back fond old memories. Within the classroom I can see its value for broadening the classroom for students who can't always be there, o...
